Opinion is divided on the aesthetics of Sacre Coeur. It was built in the 19th century in the wake of the horror of the Paris commune and it lacks some of the graceful delicacy of some of the other local churches. The setting, however, is incredible. Perched on the hill of Montmartre you can pretty much see it from anywhere in the city, a distant glorious castle out of myth and legend.
